Shaggy

 Biography

Mr Lover Lover
FROM SKA TO DANCEHALL AND ROCKSTEADY TO SOCA AND RNB Even if he lives in the United States since his majority, the roots of Shaggy are at Kingston, Jamaica. It is there that was born Orville Richard Burrell on October 22nd, 1968. As a child, his companions had nicknamed him "Shaggy", according to the insatiable character of the cartoon " Scooby Doo ". He always liked music: " in Jamaica, we do not hear but reggae on the waves ", he says. " Radios play what they want, my influences thus comes from the ska, dancehall and rock steady down to the soca and R&B". At 18 years old, Shaggy leaves Jamaica to join his mother at Brooklyn and dashes then into music. He makes a first success with "Mampie" and "Big Up", two dance-hall hard-core titles classified at the head of the reggae charts in New York. After one year of frustration spent looking for other opportunities, Shaggy enlists in the Marine in 1988. Some years later, the Gulf War brings him to fight in the Iraki desert, a mission which he fulfills with the honors. " The war is horrible, admits Shaggy. This experience changed my way of seeing life. When I went out of it, I was more than ever determined to get myself profoundly into music. " In 1993, Shaggy knows his first international success with Pure Pleasure, his first album in which features " Oh Carolina ", one of the biggest hits of historyin the story  of the British pop, also at the head of the charts of nine other countries. The same year Shaggy moves on with a first world tour which will make a triumph in Europe. In 1995, with the release of Boombastic, Shaggy makes the conquest of an enthusiastic American public. This album, guaranteed platinum, won a Grammy Award in 1996 in the category " Best Reggae Album ", whereas the eponymic title makes the unanimity in radio and sets the head of Reggae Charts, R&B and Rap on Billboard. This single, which will be numéro1 sales, will reach third place on the Hot 100 Singles Chart of Billboard.
